چکیده

Information overload is one of the biggest problems currently omnipresent in the word largest network, the Internet. No general solution exists therefore it is important to handle this problem at least in certain areas. Large collections of articles are available to the users of the Internet. Since technology is very easy to handle for information providers, literally every person who has access to a computer, which is connected to the internet, is able to provide articles for other users. Unfortunately, all these collections generate additional information overload. Once people are aware of a new service-provider, it is impossible for users to read all the articles provided to them. This article is divided in two parts: First, we discuss the concept of finding the right collection of articles and the right articles in this collection. Second, we discuss mechanisms for finding the right parts to read in an article.

Eliminating Useless Parts in Semi-structured Documents Using Alternation Counts

We propose a preprocessing method for Web mining which, given semi-structured documents with the same structure and style, distinguishes useless parts and non-useless parts in each document without any knowledge on the documents. It is based on a simple idea that any n-gram is useless if it appears frequently. To decide an appropriate pair of length n and frequency a, we introduce a new statist...

The ambush hypothesis: hidden stop codons prevent off-frame gene reading.

Coding sequences lack stop codons, but many stops appear off-frame. Off-frame stops (stops in -1 and +1 shifted reading frames, termed hidden stops) terminate frame-shifted translation, potentially decreasing energy, and resource waste on nonfunctional proteins. Benefits may include reduced waste elimination costs and avoidance of potentially cytotoxic frame-shifted products. Our "ambush" hypot...

A Canonical Form of Arithmetic and Conditional Expressions

When implementing a software, developers express conceptual knowledge (e.g. about a specific feature) not only in program language syntax and semantics but also in linguistic information stored in identifiers (e.g. method or class names) [6]. Based on this habit, Natural Language Program Analysis (NLPA) is used to improve many different areas in software engineering such as code recommendations...

Formalizing knowledge used in spectrogram reading: acoustic and perceptual evidence from stops

Since the invention of the sound spectrograph in 1946 by Koenig, Dunn and Lacey, spectrograms have been widely used for speech research. Over the last decade there has been revived interest in the application of spectrogram reading toward continuous speech recognition. Spectrogram reading involves interpreting the acoustic patterns in the image to determine the spoken utterance. One must select...
